Winter Skincare Swaps

Winter Skincare Swaps

Take control of dry flaky skin during the colder months with these carefully considered skincare switch-ups

SWAP face cream for facial oil

A lightweight moisturiser may be enough to keep skin hydrated throughout the summer but in the harsh winter weather, water evaporates from the skin quicker causing it to dry out. Swap your moisturiser for a facial oil such as Omorovicza Miracle Facial Oil, £75 that combines rosehip, sweet almond and buckthorn berry to quench thirsty skin while simultaneously creating an impenetrable antioxidant barrier. Zelens Absolute Facial oil, £65 also helps to soften dry skin. Simply work in to skinbefore bed to allow time for it to work its magic overnight, or use before applying makeup in the morning to provide a silky base. For older skin, try Sisley Black Rose Precious Facial Oil, £136, a fast-absorbing penetrative treatment that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Everyone loves to luxuriate in a warm bath but ditch the bath salts in favour of something with more grit to stop skin from looking dull and tired. Malin & Goetz Peppermint Body Scrub£24.50, sloughs away dead skin cells to allow your moisturising body cream to be absorbed easier. Choose a body scrub with hard-working ingredients like Aromatherapy Associates Enrich Body Scrub, £38.11 which includes coffee and grapefruit to restore dull skin. Make sure to exfoliate two to three times a week to banish dry, flaky skin - we recommend Tata Harper Smoothing Body Scrub, £56. It’s multi-particle polishing complex helps to achieve a natural radiant glow and it’s luxurious #shelfie worthy packaging makes getting out of bed on a cold winter’s morning a whole lot easier.

Switch up your body lotion for a thicker consistency throughout winter. Earth Tu Face Coconut Body Butter, £35 can be applied straight after showering to lock in moisture. Its combination of restorative ingredients including Vitamin E help to soothe Eczema prone skin. Of course you can’t talk about body butter without mentioning The Body Shop. Their new Spiced Apple Softening Body Butter, £14 has all of the velvety properties of their cult butters but has been refreshed for the festive season with a comforting scent of cinnamon baked apples.

Opt for a lightweight consistency to allow skin to breathe but make sure to protect against the winter sun as well. For a more intensive moisture surge, BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream, £27 fuses marine botanicals, glycerin and coconut derivatives to nourish and repair dry skin cells.

SWAP lipstick for coloured lip balms

While plum hued matte lipstick is bang on trend this season, mattifying formulas can play havoc with your lips causing them to dry out and become sore - instead go for a tinted lip balm. For a subtle sheen of colour By Terry Hyaluronic Sheer Nude Lipstick in Bare Bloom, £27 is actually formulated so it’s takes on a balm-like consistency that relieves chapped lips. For a stronger hue try Laura Mercier Lip Parfait Creamy Colour Balm in Iced Pomegranate, £19.50, a brown-red toned balm that gives a stronger colour payoff. A fearless glittering pink, an ideal choice for any upcoming festivities.
