Controversial artist Jeff Koons divides opinion in Norwich

Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery may seem an unlikely space to host an exhibition dedicated to the work of controversial American artist Jeff Koons, but it’s been hailed as a highlight of the Norfolk & Norwich Festival (running 8-24 May). Norwich Castle is using Koons’ work to engage with younger audiences as part of an initiative with the Young Norfolk Arts Festival.

Koons is an artist renowned for dividing opinion. Some praise his work as an insightful critique on the relationship between mass-media culture and art, while others dismiss his kitsch Americana aesthetic as cynical self-promotion. On display at the festival are past works including his Winter Bears (1988) piece as well as very recent creations from 2015. Find out what all the fuss is about.
