Lessons in Style
We take a look at the newest course in the Toni&Guy curriculum
“Education, education, education!” That was Toni Mascolo OBE’s motto, and it’s a philosophy which has continued to play a crucial part in the global brand’s success story. It’s also one of the key ways in which Toni&Guy ensures that it attracts the kinds of hairdressers who are keen to keep their skillset sharp and their clients happy.
With that in mind, Styling and Finishing is the latest programme to be masterminded by Head of Education Cos Sakkas. The one-day course is taught at the London Academy by International Artistic Director Efi Davies and Artistic Director Sophie Springett, two incredibly talented session and editorial stylists, and it is open to anyone.
“This is a really good course for any hairdresser who is looking to brush up on not only fundamental finishes, but also the latest trends in styling,” says Springett. “However, I’m fairly sure we’ve had people take the course who weren’t qualified hairdressers!”
This should come as no great surprise, when you consider what’s on offer. Spanning a single day, Davies and Sprigett teach four finishing techniques, making use of label.m’s unparalleled premium product range. These are dry styling techniques that leave hair with long-lasting volume and bounce; classic blowdries, which give big, glamorous curls; deep waves and soft waves, both created with the label.m family of hair wands.
The course aims to build hairdressers’ confidence on that all-important finish after a cut; a timely response to the increased focus coming from the chair. “Just now, clients are really into finish,” says Springett. In addition to the four demonstrations, participants will learn the science behind the styles. “Not to the extent of being boring, but it’s important to understand how hair changes and can be manipulated when wet or exposed to heat,” says Springett. “And any level can join,” she confirms. “You just need the tools, enthusiasm and an eye for detail.”
