Toni&guy academy

International Artistic Director and Head of Education Cos Sakkas introduced us to few of his young mentees at the Toni&Guy Academy

One of Toni Mascolo’s many legacies is Toni&Guy’s impressive Academy. His passion for education became the backbone of his superbrand, ‘Toni&Guy revolutionised the hairdressing industry through its education programme, and with over 50 years of heritage, it’s proven and respected worldwide,’ explains Cos Sakkas, ‘The blueprint of education is updated every five years so that while the fundamentals remain, it’s kept on trend and current.’

With a focus on the student, apprentices will spend one day a week in the academy where they learn customer service in addition to all of the hands-on skills that they receive from the multi-award-winning session stylists and technicians.

Meanwhile, back in the salon, a Toni&Guy hairdresser’s education is never done. Once a month each salon will host a breakfast club where a new technique is streamed from the London Academy. Always on the lookout for fresh talent to welcome into the Toni&Guy hairdressing family, Cos says that ‘hunger, passion and a good personality’ are the main qualities he’s looking for when considering potential apprentices. ‘You need to be a people person and have emotional intelligence. It’s important to connect with your client because ultimately, the measure of a good haircut is a smile of appreciation on client’s face.’ We say hello to four current apprentices, and the future faces of hairdressing.
