Anya Hindmarch to debut her menswear collection
Accessories maestro Anya Hindmarch is set to debut her menswear line next month. The collection will include three different leather bag styles: a backpack, a tote and a briefcase, as well as smaller leather goods and sneakers. Each piece will be emblazoned with the tongue-in-cheek characters Hindmarch is famed for incorporating into her designs – including the Space Invader-inspired motif from her womenswear AW16 line.
Hindmarch explained to the Times why a ‘for him’ range was a natural next step:
"Men were coming in and buying pieces that were part of our women’s collection, as well as ordering pieces from our bespoke shop, where customers are pretty much split 50-50 between the sexes, so we thought we might as well do it in a more organized way."
The design process was fairly straightforward, with most womenswear template templates simply scaled up.
"We didn’t need masses of differentiation," Hindmarch explained. "Men’s hands are bigger, so we had to change the size of some handles, and women tend to wear more cross-body bags, but that’s about it."
Hindmarch will present both menswear and womenswear collections together at London Fashion Week in September.
