Alexander Wang launches his debut jewellery collection
2015 was certainly a rollercoaster of a year for Alexander Wang. Fresh from celebrating his tenth year working in the fashion industry, being included in the Times 100 most influential people of 2015, and that Balenciaga departure, this year sees the grunge-chic designer expand his eponymous label branching into jewellery.
“I always wanted to do jewelry, but I never felt like I had the opportunity. I’ve had my hands quite full,” Wang told WWD “But I really got exposed to it when I went to Balenciaga and I really enjoyed the process.”
First showcased at SS16 New York Fashion Week, the tiny debut three-piece collection was produced in Italy and remains loyal to the brand’s aesthetic with chunky metallic hardware-inspired pieces. The brass plated chain link earrings, £240, are available in rose gold or rhodium colour ways while the statement necklace (£430) and cuff (£390) feature padlock detailing to give a pared back, downtown New York vibe.
