Fight the January blues with a trip to new bar on the block: the cocktail trading company
Ex-bartenders Elliot Ball, Olly Brading and Andy Mil have pooled all of their exquisite liquor knowledge together to create fledgling basement bar The Cocktail Trading Co Development Bar & Table, nestled underground in London’s Soho.
Those partial to a tipple or two can choose from a whole host of cocktails - or mocktails - each with its own inventive moniker, including Sauvignon Private Ryan and For Whom the Bell Bols (made up of lavender and chamomile infused Bols Genever, in case you were wondering). Groups can even swat up on their cocktail knowledge with a hosted masterclass.
But what actually makes this establishment stand out among a sea of samey watering holes is its code of ethics. It works hard to minimise waste and chooses to work with equally eco-savvy companies. The Cocktail Trading Company also fiercely champions a fair wage policy for its staff and has implemented a cooperative company structure to offer its workers healthcare benefits and flexitime working hours. Ball, Brading and Mil are now in talks with local colleges to have their bar school accredited to an NVQ level to introduce people into the industry through education. Just in case you needed an excuse for a quick one after work, that is.
